Code Of Conduct

Volunteers of the Barrhead Animal Rescue Society (B.A.R.S.) are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct. By volunteering with B.A.R.S., each volunteer acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to comply with this Code.

Representation and Reputation 

Each volunteer will conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on B.A.R.S. and its mission. Their conduct, both online and offline, should uphold the organization's integrity and reputation.

Respect and Integrity

Each volunteer will treat all individuals with respect, including fellow volunteers, staff, fosters, adopters, members of the public, and their families. Each volunteer will refrain from any words, actions, or behavior, in any medium, whether in person or online, that demonstrate disrespect, harassment, or discrimination.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Each volunteer will respect the privacy and maintain the confidentiality of individuals associated with B.A.R.S. including volunteers, staff, fosters, adopters, their families, and members of the public, and will not share any personal or sensitive information they may encounter during their volunteer work without consent.

 

Animal Welfare and Care

Each volunteer will handle all animals with care, compassion, and respect, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. Each volunteer will follow established protocols for animal handling and care.

 

Competence and Qualifications

Each volunteer will only participate in activities for which they have received appropriate training and authorization. Each volunteer will seek guidance and support when needed.

Safety and Respect

Each volunteer will prioritize the safety of themselves, others, and the animals in their care. Each volunteer will be vigilant in identifying and reporting any potential safety concerns. Each volunteer will not tolerate any form of abuse, neglect, or harassment.

 

Financial Responsibility and Ethical Conduct

Each volunteer will handle B.A.R.S.'s property, funds, and other assets with honesty, integrity, and transparency. This includes adhering to all established financial procedures, promptly reporting any discrepancies or concerns, and avoiding any actions that could create a conflict of interest.

Event Conduct

When participating in B.A.R.S. events, each volunteer will adhere to all posted rules, regulations, and guidelines established for the event. Volunteers will treat all attendees, including fellow volunteers, staff, members of the public, and vendors, with respect and courtesy. This includes refraining from disruptive or inappropriate behavior, language, or actions.

Non-Discrimination

Each volunteer will treat everyone fairly and equitably, and will not discriminate on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, citizenship, color, religion, sex, age, mental or physical ability, political beliefs, socio-economic status, health-related status, sexual orientation, marital status, or any other grounds enumerated in the human rights legislation of the jurisdiction in which the individuals involved are located.

Consequences of Non-Compliance:

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, up to and including suspension or termination of volunteer status with B.A.R.S.
